AEHL’s Players of the Month – February 2025

After the conclusion of February of the 2024-25 Alberta Elite Hockey League season, the AEHL is proud to announce the following winners of Player of the Month for all eight divisions for the month of January. The league is also proud to announce this month’s recipient of the Humanitarian of the Month Award, Sean Milford.

Humanitarian of the Month

Sean Milford – Okotoks Oilers U18 AA – F

The league is proud to celebrate Sean Milford as our Humanitarian of the Month for his outstanding dedication to supporting Rylan Bolen, a young athlete with Autism. For nearly two years, Sean has not only assisted Rylan in developing daily life skills but has also become a steadfast friend and mentor. His commitment extends beyond the rink, where he helps Rylan navigate hockey practices and games, to various community activities like Scouts, demonstrating a true brotherly bond. Rylan’s parents have praised Sean for his positive impact on their son’s life, highlighting his remarkable ability to manage challenging situations with patience and empathy. Sean’s efforts have not only fostered Rylan’s confidence in sports but have also enriched their lives through shared experiences, making a significant difference in Rylan’s journey. We are thrilled to recognize Sean for his selflessness and unwavering support in our community. 


Players of the Month 

U18 

AAA – Crew MartinsonRed Deer Optimist ChiefsF (6GP, 5G, 10A, 15P)

In the regular season’s final month, Crew accumulated an impressive 15 points across just six games, bolstering the Chiefs’ playoff aspirations while maintaining flawless discipline by avoiding any penalties during the six-game stretch. His consistency and ability to elevate his game during crucial moments underscore his talent, exceptional character, and work ethic. As he concluded the season sitting in second place in the league scoring race, Crew’s unwavering commitment has made a significant impact, showcasing the essence of competition in our league. 

AA North Metro – Mateo Gouveia KC ColtsG (4GP, 2.11 GAA, .938 SV%)

In a remarkable turnaround, Gouveia has emerged as the standout player of the month, showcasing significant improvement after a challenging start to the season. With an impressive 2.11 GAA and .938 SV% across three starts and one relief appearance in February, he has demonstrated skill and resilience in goal. As he builds upon last season’s momentum, Gouveia has found his rhythm at just the right time, consistently delivering top-notch performances that are key to his team’s pursuit of a championship in 2025. His dedication and hard work on the ice are evident, making him a player to watch heading into playoffs. 

AA North Rural – Gavyn Poyser – Beaumont Athletic Club – F (8GP, 7G, 2A, 9P)

This month, Gavyn has showcased exceptional talent and leadership, earning him the Player of the Month recognition. With an impressive 4-goal game and three multi-point performances, he has proven to be a vital asset to his team. Gavyn excels on the ice through his scoring and playmaking abilities and exemplifies a positive attitude that inspires his teammates. His consistent commitment and contributions make him a standout player this month, reinforcing his crucial role both on and off the rink. 

AA South – Nate SmithOlds GrizzlysF (7GP, 7G, 7A, 14P)

Nate Smith has emerged as a force in the league this month, showcasing an extraordinary level of skill and determination that has earned him the Player of the Month honours. His impressive 14-point performance in February, which includes seven goals and seven assists, highlights his offensive prowess and ability to deliver in crucial moments. As the leading scorer for the Olds Grizzlys U18 AA team, Nate has propelled his squad to a commendable 4-1-2 record with his remarkable playmaking and creativity on the ice. With five multi-point games, including a hat trick and two dominant four-point performances, Nate’s consistency and leadership have benefited his team and made a significant impact throughout the league. His dedication to the game and ability to shine under pressure exemplify what it means to be a top player in our competition. 

AA Calgary – Nicholas Morency CBHA Rangers – F (7GP, 6G, 8A, 14)

In an impressive display of skill and determination, Nicholas Morency has earned the Player of the Month recognition for February, leading his team to an outstanding 6-0-1 record. Known for his ability to contribute in all facets of the game, he not only excels as a top scorer, finishing second in points in the Calgary division this year, but also plays a crucial role in penalty kills, showcasing his versatility and commitment. As a graduating player, Nicholas’s contributions have not gone unnoticed, and his consistent performance over the past two seasons cements him as one of the league’s standout athletes. His efforts this month exemplify excellence on the ice. 

 


U17/16 

AAA – Bennett Roth – Red Deer North Star Chiefs – F (9GP, 8G, 7A, 15P)

Bennett Roth had an outstanding month; his relentless work ethic and impressive performance have left a significant mark on the league. Roth showcased his skill and determination with points in all but one game throughout February, including a remarkable hat trick and an impressive six-point performance to cap off the month. Averaging over a point per game this season, his contributions on both sides of the puck exemplify the passion and intensity for the game. 

AA North Metro – Hudson Rudkowski – KC Spurs – G (4GP, 4W, 1.50 GAA, .947 SV%)

In February, Hudson demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, making him a top player of the month. With an impressive 4-0 record, he showcased his ability to perform under pressure, posting a remarkable 1.50 goals-against average and 0.947 save percentage. His attention to detail and commitment to improving his game were evident in every game, as he consistently made crucial saves and organized his defence effectively. Hudson’s performance earned him recognition and played a vital role in his team’s success, solidifying his position as one of the Spurs’ key players. 

AA North Rural – Kale Whitney – TRAC Wolverines – F (4GP, 2G, 4A, 6P)

Kale Whitney was a top performer this month, demonstrating significant improvements in his defensive skills. His relentless work ethic in both practice and games has made a noticeable impact on his team’s performance, culminating in a five-point game. Even during challenging moments, his positive attitude has inspired his teammates.  

AA South – Griffen Ruby Bow Valley TimberwolvesG (4GP, 3.00 GAA, .911 SV%)

Griffen Ruby showed his unwavering spirit and positivity throughout the month despite facing challenges. Joining the team and a new association, Griffen quickly became a key figure, not just for his skills on the ice but for his infectious enthusiasm and team spirit. His ability to uplift his teammates, even while sidelined with an injury, exemplifies the true essence of sportsmanship. From energizing pre-game rituals to keeping morale high during tough times, Griffen’s contributions have extended beyond the rink, making him a beloved presence in the locker room and the arena. His resilience and positive attitude have made a significant impact on the whole team, reminding them of the importance of camaraderie and support in the face of adversity. 

AA Calgary Declan CorneliusCalgary NorthstarsF (5GP, 5G, 3A, 8P)

In recognition of his outstanding contributions throughout February, Declan Cornelius has been named Player of the Month. After an injury that sidelined him for nearly three months, his return has made a remarkable impact on the team’s performance. As captain, Declan not only leads by example with his impressive stats, recording eight points in five games, but also fosters a strong, winning culture among his teammates. His relentless work ethic and unwavering dedication to the game inspire those around him, proving that true leadership extends beyond the scoreboard. Declan exemplifies what it means to be a great teammate, making him a deserving recipient of this month’s honour. 


U15 

AAA – Nixon Bettenson – GPAC Storm – F (8GP, 9G, 7A, 16P)

Nixon Bettenson demonstrated his outstanding contributions on and off the ice throughout February. His leadership qualities shine through in his commitment to team success, as he consistently inspires his teammates with his work ethic and willingness to lead by example. Nixon’s impressive performance has set the pace for the Storm, showcasing his offensive skills while excelling as a complete 200-foot player. His remarkable six multipoint games throughout the month underscore his pivotal role in driving the team’s success. Congratulations, Nixon, for being an exemplary leader and a formidable force on the ice! 

AA North Metro Grace BalanagMLAC Alumni G (5GP, 4.00 GAA, .898 SV%)

Grace has demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication, tackling challenges with determination and a positive mindset. Her impressive improvements in challenging shooters, lateral movement, and ability to compete fiercely for the puck have not gone unnoticed. Furthermore, Grace’s confidence in the dressing room, seamlessly integrating among her 18 male teammates, highlights her exceptional leadership skills. Her insightful contributions from a goalie’s perspective have become invaluable, and her relentless commitment to the team ensures that everyone looks forward to having her in the net.  

AA North Rural – Maddon L’Hommecourt – Fort McMurray JOB – F  (4GP, 7G)

This month, Maddon has proven to be a dominant force on the ice, showcasing an impressive combination of speed and precision that has made him a standout player. In his inaugural season of competitive hockey, he has adapted to the rigours of the game and emerged as a key contributor to his team’s success. His ability to create offensive opportunities from anywhere on the ice has consistently kept opponents on their toes, underscoring his value to the team’s overall performance. His remarkable skills and determination make Maddon a deserving Player of the Month. 

AA South – Sam Weigum – West Central Tigers – F (7GP, 7G, 9A, 16P)

Sam showcased his impressive skills throughout February, registering an incredible 16 points in just seven games. His outstanding contributions helped lead his team to a successful record of 5-1-1 as the season wrapped up. Standing at an impressive 6’5″ with an NHL-caliber shot, Sam dominated on the ice and exemplified sportsmanship and dedication. Coming to the rink as a quiet yet formidable force, he continually found ways to help his team succeed without spending time in the penalty box.  

AA Calgary – Ben Fairhead – CRAA Gold – F (7GP, 5G, 4A, 9P)

Ben Fairhead is a standout player whose dedication and team spirit make him a vital asset to his squad. With unwavering commitment, he attends every practice, dryland training session, and game, consistently bringing a positive attitude and 100% effort. Ben’s versatility shines through as he willingly embraces any role needed on the team, most notably excelling as a key player in the penalty kill, where his speed and relentless forechecking create significant advantages. His discipline is evident, having received only six minutes of penalties in February, further showcasing his commitment to the game. Ben’s outstanding performance and unwavering support for his teammates truly make him deserving of this recognition.  


U13 

AAA – Bennett VanOene – St. Albert Eagles – F (4GP, 4G, 5A, 9P)

Bennett’s excellent performance this month showcased his leadership and presence in the locker room and significantly elevated team morale. In contrast, his role as a league representative in Quebec showcased his commitment to the game. Bennett has excelled defensively as a shutdown player and has proven to be a formidable offensive threat. Notably, he recorded points in every game throughout February, solidifying his status as a key player and a vital asset to his team. 

AA North Metro – Easton Beaudin – SSAC Traxx Coachlines – F (7GP, 11G, 4A, 15P)

Easton Beaudin has made an undeniable impact this month, demonstrating exceptional leadership and skill on the ice. In February, he recorded an impressive total of 15 points across just seven games, showcasing his offensive prowess with at least one point in each game. Notably, Beaudin delivered five multi-point performances, proving to be a consistent and formidable presence for his team. His ability to elevate the game of those around him has contributed to his personal success and inspired his teammates. 

AA North Rural – Nixon Ryan – TRAC Wolverines – F (7GP, 7G, 16A, 23P)

In February, Nixon emerged as an offensive powerhouse, showcasing exceptional versatility and adaptability. His impressive ability to contribute offensively while making a significant impact defensively sets him apart as a crucial player for his team. With a point in every game throughout the month, Nixon has consistently led by example, demonstrating a relentless work ethic that has fueled his team’s success. As he continues to develop and grow, all eyes will be on Nixon as he aims to carry this momentum into the next season, solidifying his status as a standout player in the league. 

AA South – Cale Stephenson – West Central Tigers – F (6GP, 10G, 5A, 15P)

Cale has been a standout player in the U13AA league this season, leading all players in scoring with a remarkable total of 65 goals and 59 assists, accumulating 124 points in just 33 games. His impressive offensive contributions are complemented by his commitment to a complete 200-foot game, showcasing remarkable defensive support, backchecking, and strong faceoff performance. February was particularly notable for Cale, as he recorded ten goals and five assists in just six games, solidifying his role as a top scorer and a key leader for the Tigers. His consistency, work ethic, and passion for hockey make him deserving of the Player of the Month honours.  

AA Calgary – Nick Acierno – CBHA Wranglers – D (4GP, 4A, 4P)

In recognition of his exceptional performance throughout February, Nick’  Acer’ Acierno has been awarded Player of the Month. As a dynamic play-driving defenseman for the division-leading Wranglers, Acer has showcased tremendous skill with his combination of size, agility, and sharp hockey sense. With a remarkable +41 rating and 22 points—tying him for the league lead among defensemen—Acer has excelled individually and lifted his team’s play. His leadership as an Assistant Captain has proven invaluable, as he mentors younger players while leading by example. Acer’s aggressive playing style and break-neck pace make him a formidable presence on the ice, solidifying his status as one of the top defensemen in the league this season.
