AEHL U18 AAA Playoffs – Round 1 Recap

The Alberta Elite Hockey League U18 AAA teams concluded their first round of the playoffs over the weekend, as four teams earned their way into the second round. Read up on the Game 1 recaps here.


North Division

Edmonton Jr. Oilers Orange def. Fort Saskatchewan Strike Group Rangers, 2-0

A five goal second period led the Jr. Oilers to a sweep of the Rangers in a 7-2 Game 2 victory. Brec Christenson (2), Ashton Lee (2), Grayden Perozni, Cole Serdachny and Jace McFaul scored for the Oilers, while Evin Bossel and Dylan Puk scored for the Rangers in the third period.

Edmonton Junior Oilers Orange faces off against Edmonton Junior Oilers Blue in the semi-finals.


Sherwood Park Ennis Kings def. LJAC Wilhauk Jerky Oil Kings, 2-1

Sherwood Park came back from their Game 1 loss to win two straight and eliminate the Oil Kings. In Game 2’s 3-2 win, Gursimar Mann and Austin Cooper opened the scoring for LJAC, but Justus Cutler and Cade Petersen tied the game at 2 in the third period, allowing Ty Rayan to score the game winner for the Kings in overtime. Sherwood Park steamrolled LJAC in Game 3 in a 10-2 win to take the series. Petersen (2), Rayan, Wyatt Ball, Dylan Kruchten, Nolan Eastwood, Warner Fadish (2) and Philippe Lavoie (2) all scored for Sherwood Park, while LJAC’s only goals came from Benjamin Morton and Corbyn Demchuk.

Sherwood Park meets the St. Albert Raiders in the semi-finals.


South Division

Calgary NW Flames def. Calgary Northstars, 2-0

The Flames pulled away with a series sweep on the heels of a comeback overtime win in Game 2, 4-3. Gavin Pham, Quinn Tavender and Hayden Schollar all scored for the Northstars, but Jack McHarg (2) and Luke Wong answered back to send the game to overtime. Chase Pilling was the overtime hero for the Flames, scoring 42 seconds in.

The Flames face off against the Airdrie CFR Bisons in the semi-finals.


Red Deer Optimist Chiefs def. Cannex Calgary Royals, 2-0

Red Deer was victorious in overtime to sweep Calgary, winning Game 2 5-4. Walker Overwater, Dominic Grieco, Tucker Tullikopf and Cooper Moore scored in regulation, but Treysen Miller sealed the series with the overtime winner for the Chiefs. Samuel Dubchak, Kael Screpnek, Chase Gutor and Mason Koponyas all scored for Calgary.

Red Deer meets the Calgary Buffalos in the semi-finals.
